Finding E-books

The Ferriman Library has access to over 500 e-books from various providers. They can be easily found via the Library Catalogue and accessed from any computer. Access to many e-books is through an NHS OpenAthens username and password, but some titles are freely available and do not require a login.

To search for an e-book you should access our Library Catalogue at http://nmuh.soutron.net/Library/Catalogues/

From here you can browse through all our e-books by selecting the link on the left-hand side of the screen:

Alternatively you can look for e-books on a particular subject. In the following example we have typed in "surgery" in the search box at the top of the screen:

You can then select the "E-books" tab to see the 9 e-books on surgery listed:

If you select "Textbook of plastic and reconstructive surgery" (the third item in the list above), we get to the next screen which identifies the link for Online Access, and that the book is a "Free electronic resource". This means you do not have to login to read it:

If you select "Principles and practice of surgery" (the second title in the list), we get to the next screen which identifies the link for accessing the E-BOOK and clarifies that you need to use your OpenAthens password to login to read the book:

If you require any further help or assistance with e-books, please contact the library on ext. 2223 or email northmid.library@nhs.net
