Downloading References to Endnote

NHS Healthcare Databases (available through OpenAthens)

From your search results screen:
  • Mark the references you wish to save
  • Scroll down to the table at the bottom of the screen
  • In the Output Format column select RIS
  • Click on Save Results
  • Choose to Open the file
  • If no application is selected, choose to open the file with Endnote and click on OK
  • Your Endnote Library should open automatically, or select your Endnote Library from the window that appears.


From your search results screen:
  • Mark the references you wish to save
  • Click on the Send To menu
  • Select Citation Manager and click on Create File
  • Choose to Open the file
  • In the Choose Destination menu, select Endnote and click on OK
  • Your Endnote Library should open automatically, or select your Endnote Library from the window that appears.


From your search results screen:
  • Mark the references you wish to save
  • Click on Export Selected (at the top of the results list)
  • Leave Export Type as PC
  • Select Citation and Abstract from the File Type drop-down menu
  • Click on Export Citation
  • Select Save File and click on OK
  • Open your Endnote Library
  • Click on the File menu at the top of the screen.
  • Move to Import and click on File
  • In the new window, next to Import File, find and select the saved file from the Cochrane Library (typically called citation-export.txt)
  • Import Option - choose Cochrane Library (Wiley)
  • Click on Import


Before searching Google Scholar, follow these steps:
  • Click on Settings
  • Under Bibliography Manager, select Show Links to Import Citations Into and select Endnote from the drop-down menu
  • Click on Save
  • Carry out your search on Google Scholar
  • Click on the Import into Endnote link beneath one of the results
  • Choose to Open the file
  • Your Endnote Library should open automatically, or select your Endnote Library from the window that appears.
